Uninvited visitor

Late yesterday afternoon Patrick and I heard a loud sound which seemed to have occurred right outside the living room window. Since moving here, we have become accustomed to strange sounds but we still check into the source and besides this one definitely was peculiar.

Patrick offered to do the “walkabout”. Our version of walking the yard to see what we find. Several minutes later he hollered in through the window “you have to come out here AND bring your camera”. I love hearing that familiar yell. It’s becoming a hobby in the family to find something odd or fun to watch.

At first I didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. Then Patrick tells me to look under the chair. OMG!

I snapped some quick photos and then informed Azure she wouldn’t want to miss this one. When she ran out we told her to make sure she had her glasses on.

She begged us to hold the enormous toad. At first we figured it probably wasn’t a good idea but eventually she wore us down.

She played with her new “pet” for at least 30 minutes before we insisted she finish her homework. She begged to keep him but of course we said a firm “NO!”.

He’s no where to be seen today but he’s definitely invited back anytime!

This post reminds me of the time a neighboring worker brought to me a green and black frog in a can. I was totally fascinated by the colors and wanted a photograph of him. I positioned him in various ways but he kept moving and it was hard to get a photo. I later remembered seeing the poisonous dart frogs on the Discovery Channel and THAT was exactly the same kind of frog I had been handling.
Moral to the story: Don't play with frogs, especially here!
Nope, I didn't die, this time.
I wear gloves now when I play with frogs. Teri

that was sure some guest you had. I don't think I would have kept him myself. I am enjoying reading your post about your move to Costa Rica. I am following other blogs as well since we are planning to relocate to CR. Once such informative blog is www.costaricahq.org that has helped with questions I have such as yours.
Will be back reading for more of your updates.

I have begun to find fascination in the number Americans that now live in Costa Rica. I must have read a dozen blogs about that in the last two days.

Two that I specifically recall are Costa Rica HQ and one called yo-yoinparadise. They are both by Americans that moved to Costa Rica.

They are all passionate advocates of how great a place Costa Rica is to live.

Is there a large American population there now? Do many live together and are there "American" areas?

I'm still trying to get a handle on why so many from the US have chosen to live in Costa Rica.

Well isn't he a cuty. Sure glad he wasn't poisonous; wouldn't want anything to happen to that beautiful child.

I'll copy this one for everyone!

Hi to all of you from the cold north.

Teri,
I know what you mean about wearing gloves. Azure wore gloves for the first few minutes of "playtime" but we checked out a reference guide and didn't see this particular toad listed as poisonous so off came the gloves. I can't say I would have done the same thing but you know kids!
