Still no white sheets
Just a quick update to my previous white sheet story. Azure's soccer game was canceled again. What does this have to do with white sheets. Well, nothing except Azure's teacher has French classes Tuesday afternoons and we had planned to speak to her after the game which would coincide with the end of French. Since there was no game, we couldn't speak to her teacher. Anyway, Heredia's central market happened to be the teacher's recommended spot to buy sheets. Patrick and I headed over there Wednesday morning. We walked the entire market twice - no sheets in sight. We finally ended up buying two meters of white fabric which cost us about $4.
Azure said that only one student actually brought a sheet on Thursday. Everyone else had fabric or nothing. Azure's piece of fabric worked out well because she only needed half and she shared the other half with a student in her class.

I find it incredible that no one told you where to buy a white sheet. There are undoubtedly many available at any one of the numerous Ropas Americanas stores in every town or village in Costa Rica. There are plenty in Heredia some of the best, actually. There is a huge one on the pista going into downtown Heredia, across from El Jardin de Los Recuerdos. If you are not familiar with Ropas, they are the Costa Rican equivalent of Thrift Stores in the US, however, they are often sources of fine clothing for next to nothing and (depending on the Ropa) a great source of sheets, towels, comforters, etc.
Wow! Thanks for that information. I have seen many ropas but most of them seem to have expensive teen fashions or womens work clothes (suits) OR bargain/closeout shirts (blusas). But I have never noticed one with sheets. I'll just have to shop more!

I have been in a store named Alicia's with closeout everything including sheets and clothes on the road out of Heredia to Alejuela. They happened to be closed the day we were shopping. Just our luck!
Maybe I wasn't very clear. Ropas Americanas are not close out stores..They are NOT stores with new clothes in them, they are stores, like Goodwill, or Thrift shops that you may or may not be familiar with in the US. The clothes are ALL used and there are literally hundreds of these stores in and around San Jose and every town in the Central Valley...they are in small towns, all over Costa Rica. Maybe some of them sell some newer clothing or shoes, but as a rule, they are strictly used clothing stores. They are very popular, nothing is expensive,...mostly like between 500 - 1500 colones, per garmet. Some of the clothes are very nice, hardly worn. Not all of them have sheets and bedding, but the ones that do, have sheets, comforters, pillows, bedspreads, everything. These items are not usually displayed well, and often you have to dig through boxes, but I think you will find them to be an eye-opener...
